Op de spoorlijn Aarschot-Leuven werden in de periode van 1 januari 2006 tot 30 september 2008, 26 technische defecten genoteerd. Daarvan hadden er 24 te maken met  seininrichtingen.
Dat antwoordde Minister van Overheidsbedrijven Steven Vanackere  op Katia's schriftelijke vraag.

Het rattenincident deed zich voor in oktober 2008 op de lijn Aarschot-Leuven". "Het spoorverkeer zat volledig in de knoei nadat bleek dat ratten de elektriciteitskabels hadden beschadigd. De reizigers ondervonden meerdere dagen hinder..

Minister Vanackere verzekerde  dat de elektriciteitskabels permanent bewaakt worden met een isolatiebewakingssysteem én dat de installaties om de zes maanden gecontroleerd worden. Toch heeft Katia daar  bedenkingen bij. Ratten bijten zo'n kabels toch niet op één, twee, drie door? Zij hoop dat dergelijke wantoestanden in de toekomst niet meer voorvallen, én dat de communicatie met de de reizigers  verbetert.

As a member of the European Alliance Against Malaria (EAAM), EPF organised a week-long study tour to Cameroon held from 28 March - 04 April 2009 that focused on following-up the country's efforts at combating malaria.

The study tour was hosted by the Cameroon Coalition Against Malaria (CCAM), the Cameroon Affiliate of Malaria Consortium based in the UK which works at reducing deaths and suffering due to malaria in Cameroon by increasing mobilisation efforts to secure a comprehensive and sustained response to malaria. The study tour offered a deep insight into malaria burden, and enabled the Delegation to assess the progress, the needs and remaining challenges in the fight against malaria. The study tour provided an invaluable experience on the new methods and strategies in place to tackle the disease and enabled participating Parliamentarians to gain first-hand experience of the reality of the situation in a developing country.
